Chief Executive Officer, General Atlantic

As CEO of General Atlantic, a leading global growth equity firm, Bill Ford has over 25 years of experience investing in and helping to build leading growth companies including IHS Markit, e*Trade, Priceline, and First Republic Bank. Under Ford’s leadership, General Atlantic has expanded its global presence, increased its capital base, and deepened its capabilities to identify and partner with high-potential growth companies across multiple business sectors and geographies.

Ford joined General Atlantic in 1991 and became CEO in 2007. He serves on the boards of several current portfolio companies, including Axel Springer, IHS Markit, and Tory Burch, and is a member of the Partnership Committee for Oak Hill Advisors. He was formerly a director of prior General Atlantic investments, including First Republic Bank, NYSE Euronext, e*Trade, Priceline, and NYMEX.  Ford is chairman of General Atlantic's Executive committee and is a member of the firm’s Investment, Portfolio, and Capital Committees.

Mr. Ford is involved with a number of educational and not-for-profit organizations.  He is also a member of the boards of Rockefeller University, where he is Vice Chairman, The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Lincoln Center.  Mr. Ford is active in business education serving as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management.  From 2001 to 2013, Ford was a trustee of Amherst College and currently serves on the Investment Committee for the College’s endowment.

He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Partnership for New York City, the Board of Directors of the National Committee on United States-China Relations and is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations. He serves on the board of TBG Limited, a private European company.

Like a single strand of wafting smoke, Niia's debut album I is entrancing in its sparse, elegantly gliding beauty. Her follow-up to 2014's Generation Blue EP and first release on Atlantic Records takes that release's lush, bassy sound and pares it back to reveal smooth, fully realized songwriting and timeless aesthetics. It's a slow-burning, intimate document that tips its hand towards genres as disparate as the glory days of trip-hop, mid-tempo disco, and misty jazz, while retaining an impressively unified mood evoking modern noir.

A prodigious musician with jazz vocal training, Niia has spent the last eight years charting a path towards I that mirrors the patient, sneakily brilliant sounds the record contains. After a guest vocal spot on Wyclef Jean's "Sweetest Girl" back in 2007 and years of establishing herself amongst the NYC underground scene with performances at Sleep No More, 2014 saw the release of Generation Blue—a slinky, full-bodied collection of smooth pop toplined by the lovely single “Body."

With its interlocking guitar parts, gorgeous instrumentation, and Niia's gliding vocals, "Body" provided a taste of what was to come with I, which expands on that sound while bringing in a variety of other influences. You can hear the spacious and cool-handed trip-hop of Massive Attack and Zero 7 on the cascading "Last Night in Los Feliz," and "Hurt You First" ripples with lush production touches that sound like a love letter to the girl-group R&B of the late 1990s. Then there's "California," which evokes the quiet-storm R&B perfected by Sade while drawing from the dusky vocal jazz that's been so formative in Niia's artistic growth.

Lyrically, I explores the seductive fruit that new love brings, along with the anxieties and complications that result in giving yourself over to another. "I usually hide behind the lyrics," Niia admits regarding I's personal bent, which took shape during a songwriting process that transpired over the last year and a half. "I was surprised how transparent I got while writing these songs."

Along for that journey is Grammy-nominated producer Robin Hannibal, who's lent his considerable talents to artists as varied as Kendrick Lamar, Chairlift, and Cee Lo Green—not to mention his work as part of the moody, gorgeous R&B act Rhye. Hannibal and Niia linked up five years ago, and they quickly became kindred spirits when it came to their artistic aims. "I love Robin's production because it has a timeless quality but still feels fresh," Niia says. "I want to flex my voice and be the star of the song, so it was really fun to challenge Robin and myself to make that work." The result is a warm, engaging document that tugs at the strings of Niia's previous work to reveal greater sonic depths, made more apparent by the impeccable arrangements working in perfect congress with her impossibly flexible vocals.

A confluence of the contemporary and current carries a strong presence on I highlight "Sideline," a dark, seductive slice of orchestral pop that recalls the intimate singer-songwriter stylings of Carole King and Tidal-era Fiona Apple—all while addressing concerns as of-our-moment as questioning the contents of a loved one's background on their cell phone. "It's about the idea of being a girl and dealing with what it's like to be in a relationship now," Niia says. "It plays into my insecurities of being in a relationship that i care about. How do you get through all the shit?"

For anyone looking to find an answer to that question (or a soundtrack for their own ups and downs in the world of love), I is sure to score lonely nights and newly hopeful mornings alike. It's a confident, bold album that nonetheless retains an enigmatic quality—a collection of dreamlike sounds that serves as a perfect entry into this new chapter of Niia's career.

Shaking up the traditional tequila industry in their native Mexico, entrepreneurs Moises and Daniel are aiming to reinvent the tequila-drinking experience the world over. They founded Tequilera Milagro with a focus on superior product quality and innovative brand management, aiming to replace old-fashioned images of “horses and haciendas” with hip nightclubs and sleek cocktails. The strategy has paid off: Tequilera Milagro has become the fastest growing tequila product in the U.S. The company has been ranked on CNN Expansion’s “Top 10 Entrepreneurs.” Milagro now represents the fourth largest tequila company in the United States and the eighth largest in Mexico, passing tequila manufacturers who have been in business for more than 200 years. Kenneth Cobonpue | Endeavor Philippines

From Queen Rania of Jordan to Hollywood’s Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Kenneth Cobonpue has captivated many with his masterwork. His eponymous brand designs and manufactures nature-inspired luxury furniture. By combining locally-sourced organic materials with handmade production techniques and innovative designs, Cobonpue provides a modern take on traditional craftsmanship. Operating in the US $20 billion global luxury furniture market, the company (KC) sells its designs to clients in over 60 countries through 100 retail showrooms. Apart from its celebrity clientele, KC furniture can be found in fine-dining establishments and hotels across the world, and has been featured on television shows including CSI Miami, as well as full-length Hollywood films such as Ocean’s Thirteen. Yerra | Endeavor Uruguay

Yerra brings its contemporary and refined taste to the design world through its selection of high-end rugs. Its rugs which range from $5,000-$30,000 are carefully crafted out of hides and furs from Brazil, Argentina and Peru. Yerra exports 80% of its production to the US and the remaining 20% is mainly exported to Mexico and Canada. With a total of over 60 dealers worldwide Yerra is just beginning to scale to its full potential. An impressive client list includes names like ABC Carpet & Home, Lillian August, and Stark Carpets. With a very well established distribution channel and relationships with specialized retailers in three continents, Yerra aims to expand from 45 to 140 dealers worldwide, plus over 500 direct clients by 2019. Anghami | Endeavor Lebanon

Anghami is the leading digital music service in the Middle East. Based in Beirut and Dubai, Anghami features licensed content from leading Arabic labels such as Rotana, Platinum Records, Mazzika, and Melody, as well as music from the major International labels such as Universal, Sony, EMI, and Warner. Over the past three years, Anghami has grown its subscriber base eleven-fold to 30 million users, and its monthly active user base five-fold to a current 6 million users. Closca | Endeavor Spain

CLOSCA, based in Valencia (Spain), is an innovative company driven by entrepreneur and founder Carlos Ferrando with the goal of enhancing and combining design with style. CLOSCA’s first product, the CLOSCA Helmet, was the first foldable, multi-purpose bicycling helmet on the market, which quickly became an icon in the cycling sector for promoting sustainable transportation and inspiring the development of respectful, innovative cities. Chargello | Endeavor Miami

Sometimes running out of battery is just not an option. Carrying power banks can be annoying, and finding an outlet in public places is nearly impossible. Frustrated by this, two young entrepreneurs created Chargello, a company focused on solving the low-battery problem in public places (restaurants, hotels, airports, etc.) via their proprietary portable batteries. These batteries not only charge phones but also serve as an innovative advertising platform. With print advertising on the surface of the batteries and embedded technology, Chargello delivers targeted content and redirects users to ads and apps, while tracking interaction data (views, clicks, conversions). Satellogic | Endeavor Argentina

Satellogic is a “platform-as-a-service” nano-satellite company out of Argentina. Emiliano Kargieman is the Endeavor Entrepreneur behind Satellogic, which aims to leverage a fleet of nano-satellites to produce commercial-grade, affordable Earth observation data for daily decision making. Founded in 2011, Satellogic has launched three satellites over the last year, and is currently working on the first iteration of the platform: 15 satellites to service initial markets in Oil and Gas and Agriculture by 2015. YouVisit | Endeavor Miami

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would YouVisit? Organizations in every industry leverage traditional videos and 360° videos to drive customer engagement. However, traditional videos have now become commonplace, 360° videos are costly and time-intensive to produce, and both fail to convert audiences due to the spectators’ passive involvement. YouVisit is SaaS company that combines its award-winning production studio with its proprietary platform, Aria, to help organizations better engage and convert audiences through interactive 360° experiences across mobile, desktop, and virtual reality devices.Competing in a $3 billion VR/AR market that is projected to explode to $108 billion in 2021, YouVisit has established a strong footprint in the U.S. market through work with clients such as Swarovski, the U.S. Army, the University of Miami, Accenture, and Visit Philadelphia. Learn more here.


Bluesmart | Endeavor Colombia

Bluesmart is a technology company that develops internet-connected travel products, including “the world’s first smart, connected luggage.” Bluesmart’s products feature location tracking, battery charging, remote locking, weight sensors, distance sensors and travel reports via the app. Forbes Magazine named their Bluesmart Carry-on Suitcase among the “Most Innovative Products of 2014” and FastCompany included it that same year in their “Best Travel Gear of the Year”. Supported by Endeavor as well as a slew of prominent angel investors, the Bluesmart team ran one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns of all-time – raising $2M+ in January 2015 – and went on to be accelerated by Y Combinator (YC W15). Hickies | Endeavor Argentina

Hickies is an innovative consumer product company that has completely re-imagined shoelaces. Launched in 2011 by the husband-and-wife team Gaston Frydlewski and Mariquel Waingarten, Hickies describes itself as “a global sneaker accessories company focused on athletic performance, innovation and design.” The company’s flagship product – the Hickies Lacing System – is made from a memory-fit elastomer that flexes with the foot’s movement while still providing fit and stability. Since its launch, Hickies has sold more than 2 million units of its modular shoelace replacements in 45 countries. Originally from Argentina, Gaston and Mariquel now run Hickies from New York City. They were selected as Endeavor Entrepreneurs at ISP 60 in San Francisco in August 2015. Learn more here. 



Urbano Design | Endeavor Chile

Though its products are designed to protect, Urbano Design is breaking the mold of the mobile accessories industry. In the early 2000s, Latin Americans looking to personalize their electronic devices were limited to a few bland color options. Victor Vargas and Alex Parnas transformed this market with Urbano by combining function and fast fashion, quickly replicating catwalk trends and popular graphic designs to add aesthetic appeal to the latest tech accessories. Through its fully integrated supply chain, Urbano produces smartphone cases, laptop and tablet sleeves, headphones, and chargers that reach its 14 kiosks across Chile, Peru, and Argentina, as well as Latin America’s largest retail outlets, in as little as 20 days. Endeavor was formed as a new kind of non-profit organization. In 1997, Linda Rottenberg and Peter Kellner sat down and, like many entrepreneurs before and after, sketched their vision on the back of a napkin. Peter had just returned from a Harvard Business School trip to China, where he had witnessed first-hand the boom in entrepreneurship that would transform that country.

For Linda, the light bulb moment for Endeavor came in the back of a taxi cab in Buenos Aires. She struck up a conversation with the driver and was shocked to learn he had a PhD in Engineering. She asked if he hadn’t considered becoming an entrepreneur instead of driving a taxi. “An empresario?” he said dismissively, using the Spanish word for a big businessman. It suddenly occurred to her that there was no Spanish word for “entrepreneur.”

The “business plan” that began on the back of a napkin has become a shared vision, cultivated and expanded by board members, staff and entrepreneurs around the globe. Their passion and commitment have created a movement and transformed Endeavor into something far bigger than the founders could have imagined.
